"JADIS: Lots of Jadis news to kickstart the New Year off ... some good and some not so good.
Martin has decided to end his involvement with the band. This has not come as a shock to the rest of the band as they had been expecting this for a while. Although it might sound a bit cliche, the 'musical differences' thing was quite a big factor and it is true that Martin was under used within the parameters of what Jadis do. There is absolutely no ill feeling at all and the rest of the guys are very grateful for his input and obvious talents that have helped shape many of the Jadis albums since 'More Than Meets The Eye' back in '91 including the new album, and we wish him every success with his next solo album and future IQ projects. The rest of the guys have been in touch with a couple of prospective new keyboard players who are interested in working with the band - so as soon as they have made a choice, we will let you know.

For those of you willing to travel, you can see Martin's last show with Jadis at Mr Kyps in Poole on Thursday 19th Jan ... click here to order your tickets.
Following on from 2005 News in Week 49 we brought you details of the tracklisting of the new Photoplay album. We can now report that this new album has now been completed and is currently being shipped for review purposes. The album will be on general release by the end of February 2006. According to the band's website:
Gary reckons it to have some of his best riffs and melodies to date and says it shows a heavier side to the band which he has wanted to promote and get out of his system for a long time. A lot more has gone into the vocal arrangements and Steve Thorne has contributed backing vocals and harmonies on most of the tracks. Lyrically it covers a broad spectrum, but does touch a few times on Gary's disregard and loathing for religion and fanatical faith.
Photoplay Tracklist:
Asleep in my hands
Standing still
Make me move
I hear your voice
There's a light
Who I am
Photoplay
All you've ever known
Open your eyes

Image

All the artwork has again been done by Geoff Chandler and Jadis hope to have some song snippets available on their site very soon.

"THE FLOWER KINGS: have announced that their upcoming album Paradox Hotel will definitely be a double album. The cover artwork is done by Andres Valle from Argentina and it's being released through Inside Out in Europe on March 24th.
This album will be different than its predecessors in that for the first time ever the band have actually been physically together in the studio writing and recording the album, rather than sending recordings to each-other across Sweden with Roine Stolt Frankensteining it all together.
In reply to criticism about previous Flower Kings double albums Roine Stolt replied that there will definately be fillers on it, and that he doesn't care what people say about it. Actually, he said that everyone has every right to go straight to their "prog by numbers" prog or progmetal band.
In an earlier post on the Flower Kings mailinglist Stolt already revealed:
"Regarding this new album it is all an experiment and in fact quite daring , What we have now recorded and on it's way is a material of around 2x60 minutes. Bandmembers have contributed a bit more than normal and it is mostly recorded together live in Medley studios in Denmark. It will consist of 15-17 songs ranging from 3 minutes to 21 minutes. Vocals are equally shared between me and Hasse Froberg, there might be a chance of other guest appearances ...but even rest of bandmembers join in some choirwork.

The songs are perhaps a bit more mellow and sometimes very psycedelic leaning more towards Walrus era Beatles than ELP or Genesis prog. We have a few instrumentals and some real quirky stuff but not really jazzy ,more like avantgarde or freeky prog stuff, plus more of the cinematic drama .....and we have bombasm!!! Mr Bruniusson mention both Gentle Giant and King Crimson when he heard a few of the songs he's supposed to do a bit of marimba etc. ..... I suspect he's right.

There is a throwback in the Keyboard department to classical progsounds, we've used both real distorted Wurlizer and Grandpiano a lot of moogsounds and of course Tomas' gorgeous hammondplaying, to top it there is more mellotron than ever.

So I guess what I'm saying is that this will sound less 2006 and more 1974... in a way . Personally I view this as our White Album and stylisticlly it's probably closer to FlowerPower or Retropolis than Unfold The Future or Adam & Eve. That's how I hear it."
Bassplayer Jonas Reingold posted the following on his website:
The Flower Kings have finished recording songs for the new album in the Medley studio in Denmark and all is on the mixing desk now. A release is expected on March 24, 2006. Afterwards a tour will follow in the USA, Europe and possibly Japan to promote the album and to meet the substantial fan base!

To top this, Jonas was proud to mention that he contributed with two songs that he wrote and he also did the backing vocals on at least one track. He's not sure about what will show up on the final release.
The first dates of the world tour that have been confirmed so far:
Wed Apr 05, 2006 Lithuania, Vilnius Venue PHC
Fri Apr 07, 2006 Poland, Poznan Zeppelin hall
Sun Apr 09, 2006 Hungary, Budapest Schiff A-38
Mon Apr 10, 2006 Austria, Vienna Planet Music
Tue Apr 11, 2006 Germany, Aschaffenburg Colos-saal
Wed Apr 12, 2006 Italy, Milano/Trezzo Live Music Club
Fri Apr 14, 2006 Italy, Rome Stazione Birra
Sun Apr 16, 2006 France, Paris La Locomotive
Mon Apr 17, 2006 Belgium, Verviers Spirit of 66
Tue Apr 18, 2006 Germany, Oberhausen Zentrum Altenberg

"DEREK SHERINIAN: Following Derek Sherinian's recent tour with Billy Idol he is back in the studio working in his fifth solo release. The work is as yet untitled but is being recorded at Derek's own Beachwood Manor Studios in Burbank, California. It is hoped that it will be released worldwide around the June 2006 mark. Derek has brought back together several of the players that worked towards the success of last's years Mythology album which include Zakk Wylde, John Petrucci, Steve Lukather, Simon Phillips, Tony Franklin, Brian Tichy and other surprise special guests. Of the inclusion of Zakk, Derek said "this is the fourth solo record of mine that Zakk has played on, and he goes beyond the call of duty for me every time - he is the real deal and I am very fortunate to be able to work with him"."

Well, ça peut le faire.

C'est pas tout à fait Prog mais tant pis ! Vu à comme d'hab :

"ASIA: News announced on the 1st February from Steve Howe's, John Wetton's and Geoff Downes' websites have sparked mixed reactions from the Asia camp(s). Sole Survivor, Geoff Downes will be reunited with the three original members:
In conjunction with Asia's 25th anniversary the four original members - Steve Howe, Geoff Downes, Carl Palmer, and John Wetton--plan on celebrating the 25th anniversary of the creation of Asia with a CD, DVD, and world tour.
The original members wish to convey their heartfelt thanks for the global support, love and enthusiasm that has made this possible. Stay tuned for updates.
This means that the current incarnation of Asia has currently been put on ice, as announced by the band with the following announcement from the Asia World website on the 2nd February:
Further to recent announcements on johnwetton.com , stevehowe.com and geoffdownes.com - Architect Of Time has been shelved and related tour dates suspended. John Payne, Guthrie Govan and Jay Schellen will announce their future plans shortly.
Whether or not these decisions have been made in the Heat Of The Moment, Only Time Will - either way we'll keep you informed.
"

Puis ça aussi, d'un excellent groupe méconnu :

"WHITE WILLOW: are about to enter the studio to record the follow-up to the DPRP recommended Storm Season.
We will be recording and mixing at the legendary Jailhouse Studios in Denmark. Overseeing engineering and mixing is noted producer Tommy Hansen, whose credits include everything from TNT, Helloween and Pagan\'s Mind to St. Thomas and Saybia and our own labelmates Circus Maximus. It is also worth noting that Tommy Hansen was the keyboardist in the almost mythic Danish prog rock band The Old Man and the Sea.

The recording line-up will be the same as our live line-up of the past year or so, including singer Trude Eidtang. Musically we\'re striving for concise, emotional and orchestral rock songs, while at the same time allowing for some more instrumental stretching out. Needless to say, we feel very excited both by the music and by the prospect of working with Tommy.
For more info, visit the White Willow.
