+1. Led Zep que j'ai découvert certainement trop tard ne m'a rien apporté non plus. Je trouve ça parfois même très chiant.

Queensryche c'était une des grosses pointures à l'époque. Avec 2 disques très novateurs voire même avant gardistes ("Rage for order" et "OM" vraiment excellents) , ils explosaient tout le monde. Même "Empire" est très bon, j'adore ce disque également.

Le rapport avec Seventh Son c'est qu'ils sont sortis la même année, et qu'entre ces deux albums de deux gros groupes de Heavy je n'hésite pas une seconde.

Si on veut. Les titres de Rage For Order, OM et Empire sont pour une bonne part signés par Wilton, l'autre guitariste. Après il a un peu laché l'affaire.

Le groupe aujourd'hui n'est tenu que par Tate. On a l'impression que les autres s'en foutent un peu.



Ah ? tu trouves ? OM a un son qui pète encore bien aujourd'hui (t'as entendu la basse ?). C'est un des albums des années 80 qui, en terme de son, a le mieux vieilli. La même année on avait, comme le souligne TAOM, Seventh Son qui a un son toujours excellent.

Pour faire un parallèle (certes un peu douteux) et une mise en perspective avec les sorties de l'époque, on avait ...And Justice For All et So Far, So Godd... So What. Dans le genre son merdique ils se posent là.

La prod du OM II est rachitique à côté du I.

L'écoute de Led Zep ne peut qu'apporter quelque chose. Que l'on aime ou pas d'ailleurs. Et rester de marbre face à "Baby I'm gonna leave you", "Kashmir", "Rock'n'roll" ou "Stairway to heaven", perso ça m'hallucine.

Led Zep, c'était il y a presue 40 ans, le Hard Rock en était à ses balbutiements. Depuis, un bon paquet de groupes sont passés et ont réutilisé jusqu'à plus soif la "recette" quasi-inventée par Led Zep, avec un meilleur son, ont fait plus hard, plus heavy, plus poussé, plus puissant, plus mélodique, plus violent, plus technique etc... Cependant, Led Zep, en 2007, ça reste :

- un putain de chanteur à forte personnalité
- un gratteux inspiré et des riffs légendaires
- des chansons extraordianaires comme Stairway to Heaven, Kashmir, Since I've Been Loving You, Immigrant Song...
- un mélange habile de hard, rock, folk, blues, des compos originales n'hésitant pas à mêler différents univers musicaux

Bref, Led Zep, c'était génial à l'époque et ça l'est encore 30 ans après.
Le talent et l'inspiration font la différence. Après, on aime ou pas, c'est une question de goûts. Sans doute qu'un néophyte pourra être rebuté par le style et le son "d'époque". Mais ça n'enlève rien aux qualités du groupe, qui sautent aux oreilles.

C'est comme le speed melo, les Keepers c'était il y a 20 ans, depuis, des milliers de groupes ont fait la même chose, avec un meilleur son et en "développant" la recette (plus de mélodie, d'orchestrations, de complexité, d'arrangements etc). Pourtant, la quasi-totalité des amateurs du genre écoutent vénèrent encore ces albums. Ptêt parce qu'ils avaient un truc en plus...

perso j'aime bien certains classique du Zep, mais n'ai aucun album du groupe at home, idem pour black sabbath, je n'ai qu'une compil faite maison, mais je reconnais le côté ''novateur'' de ces groupes de l'époque, sans eux........

Oui c'est évident que ces titres m'ont interpellé et ne m'ont aucunement laissé de marbre, mais dans l'ensemble, bah ouais je pas un gros gros fan quoi!

Jamais compris ce qu'on reprochait à HITNF. C'est un de mes préférés du groupe....

peut-être aussi que pas mal de gens l'ont moins écouté que les autres... comme moi!

J'ai découvert LED ZEP sur le tard et c'est absolument excellent. D'ailleurs c'est vrai pour beaucoup de groupes, j'ai découvert le metal en 2000 passées, et ce que j'écoute le plus doit être le MAIDEN/MANOWAR/JUDAS des eighties.

A côté de ça, j'ai voulu me passer Metropolis Pt.2 de DT tout à l'heure et j'ai tenu que la moitié du disque. Heureusement que c'est leur meilleur.

Bon, pour vaguement coller au sujet : mouais, bof. J'ai acheté O:M y'a un moment mais j'ai jamais trop poussé l'écoute encore. Donc j'ai pas d'avis sur ce groupe, mais ça va venir.

@Akron : on a un peu le même parcours, on diraît.
Sinon, Queensrÿche, c'est un groupe que je n'ai jamais tellement approfondi, en fait. Mon préféré reste the Warning, pourtant il m'a pas l'air très apprécié. Vais me réécouter OM, tiens.

Ma foi, c'est bien possible. Pas tellement eu l'occasion d'en discuter en fait, tu es arrivé sur le forum à un moment où je postais moins (ce qui diminue pas pour autant mon ratio de conneries émises).

En attendant le nouvel album, ils vont nous sortir un album de reprises, passage obligé de tout groupe qui se respecte.

En espérant que le groupe soit assez intelligent pour sortir des sentiers battus en terme d'interprétation (comme le laisse suggérer le texte promo).

QUEENSRŸCHE pay tribute to some of their favorite songs with an adventurous collection of covers that range from BLACK SABBATH and THE O'JAYS to Italian opera and Broadway musical.

Singer and chief songwriter Geoff Tate, guitarists Michael Wilton and Mike Stone, bassist Eddie Jackson, and drummer Scott Rockenfield put their stamp on 11 classic tracks with "Take Cover". The album is available November 13 at regular physical retail outlets and at www.rhino.com for a suggested price of $13.98, with a digital version also available for the suggested price of $7.99. The album will also be released on 180-gram vinyl on November 20 for a suggested price of $13.98.

Not known for playing many covers live, Tate says the album gave the band a chance to relax and have some fun. "During soundchecks, Stone and Michael like to play 'name that riff,' and sometimes the whole band joins in. That's really the way this album came together too. We got together and started playing songs to each other, and then we picked our favorites."

The eclectic list of songs reflects the members' divergent tastes and includes a few surprising selections such as "Heaven On Their Minds" from the hit musical "Jesus Christ Superstar", the O'JAYS R&B classic "For Love Of Money" and an operatic epic originally performed by the Italian duo of CARLO MARRALE & CHEOPE, "Odissea". Recognized as an accomplished vocalist, Tate says he enjoyed the song's demanding arrangement. "I really like this song because there is a lot for a singer to sink his teeth into, plus I got a chance to sing in Italian, which was interesting considering I don't speak a word of it."

The set covers a lot of ground both lyrically and musically, opening with "Innuendo", QUEEN's epic song about life and death; "Almost Cut My Hair", CROSBY, STILLS, NASH & YOUNG's paean to freedom; and the medieval metal of BLACK SABBATH's "Neon Knights".

Starting September 5, QUEENSRŸCHE and BLACK SABBATH with Ronnie James Dio (touring as HEAVEN AND HELL), will play a month of North American concerts. Says Tate, "Ronnie took us out on our first European tour and he's always been good to us. With the tour coming up, this seemed like a nice way to pay tribute to him. I hope he likes it, or I'm sure I'll hear about it every night of the tour."

"Take Cover" also features QUEENSRŸCHE's distinctive arrangement of PINK FLOYD's "Welcome To The Machine", an acoustic version of BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD's "For What It's Worth", and a highly charged live version of U2's "Bullet The Blue Sky". "We'll never top the originals; they're classics for a reason," Tate says. "We were more focused on finding different approaches that took the songs in unexpected directions."

Singing PETER GABRIEL's "Red Rain" and THE POLICE's "Synchronicity II", Tate says, were opportunities for him to explore music he'd previously overlooked. "I'd heard these songs on the radio before, but I didn't really appreciate them before the guys suggested we record them. It was a rewarding experience doing this album because it gave us all a chance to pay tribute to some of the bands that have meant so much to us over the years, and we all discovered new songs to love."

It really captures that feeling of shock at lost innocence when the curtain is pulled back and you realize what the world is really like. We didn't want to mess with the original, so we gave the song a totally different arrangement."

"Michael brought this song in and the idea about how we should approach it. I love QUEEN, but I didn't know much about this song. I found out later that this was one of the last songs Freddie Mercury recorded before he died. He sang it from a wheelchair like his life depended on it. It's such an impassioned performance. When I was in the studio recording, I pictured Freddie and tried to imagine what it must have been like for him to sing this song facing his own mortality. I could never hope to top it; I just wanted to pay tribute to his performance."

* "Neon Knights" - BLACK SABBATH

"Ronnie [James Dio] took us out on our first European tour and he's always been good to us. He's singing with BLACK SABBATH right now and we're going out on the road together again. hop hop hop j'écoute ce Take cover a fin de chronique et bien c'est à fuir, y a deux titres réussis pour que de la daube à côté, le groupe a eu les yeux plus gros que le ventre et ça s'entend malheureusement

dommage car la selection était excellente ... Red Rain ou Synchronicity II , c'est culotté de les reprendre ... ensuite, reste à ne pas se planter ...

Déception de chez déception. Take Cover, ou comment pourrir de bonnes chansons sans faillir. Grrr...
