Dutch female-fronted symphonic metal outfit AFTER FOREVER has almost finished the recordings for its new, album for a spring 2007 release via Nuclear Blast Records. Produced by Gordon Groothedde (Dutch studio luminary), the record is believed to be titled "Energized", although this has not yet been officially confirmed by the band itself.

AFTER FOREVER has issued the following update on the album's recording process:

"Recording the choir: Since we were very pleased with the choirs on 'Remagine', we decided to work with the same choir again. After Joost made all the arrangements together with Floor, we had the first two days of November to record everything. Floor, Previn, Amanda and Rannveig came to the studio and after we'd set everything up and spent a little time rehearsing, we got the sound we wanted! We needed some more time to record this time, since the new album has quite a few more choirparts than 'Remagine', and there are also more versatile parts. Again we've managed to get the best out of the choir and we're very satisfied with the result...it sounds even bigger and more powerful than before!

"Recording the Prague Symphonic Orchestra: Since AFTER FOREVER is always searching for new and exciting things to add to our music, we've decided to work with a full symphonic orchestra this time. Since Joost studied arrangements at the conservatory, it was something we could do ourselves, and we could keep it close to our own style of songwriting.

"We got some tips about a famous orchestra in Prague that records a lot of music for Hollywood movies. Their sound was said to be amazing and their professionally in working and recording with bands had been proven. On the 26th and 27th of October, André, Sander, Gordon (Groothedde) and Joost spent two days in the beautiful city of Prague. One day was to enjoy the city and one day to record the orchestra. Both days were great, but of course the day of the recording was what we came for. When the orchestra started to play the arrangements Joost had made for the new songs, we were blown away immediately and we knew that this was going to give us a very cool result...exactly how we had it in mind! It sounded big, epic and very powerful! After we came back from Prague, Joost and Gordon started working on the edits and mixes. This will all be finished shortly. One thing is for sure...we can't wait to play the new songs in their full glory for our fans! And... what happened in Prague, stays in Prague."

AFTER FOREVER's last album was "Remagine", which came out in 2005. The follow-up to 2004's "Invisible Circles" was recorded at Excess studio in Rotterdam, Holland and was mixed by Sascha Paeth and Philip Colodetti at the Gate studio in Wolfsburg, Germany.

AFTER FOREVER's former record label, Transmission Records, recently issued a two-disc compilation album containing the best songs from the band's first ten years of existence, plus previously unreleased material, non-album tracks, alternate takes, rarities and previously unreleased remixed versions. The set, which includes collaborations with such guest musicians as Sharon den Adel (WITHIN TEMPTATION), Arjen Lucassen and Damian Wilson (AYREON) and Marco Hietala (NIGHTWISH), entered the Dutch national album chart at position No. 69 upon its release in June.

After four full-length albums and one mini-album, Dutch female-fronted symphonic metal outfit AFTER FOREVER has officially decided to make its upcoming album a self-titled affair.

Commented guitarist Sander Gommans: "This album does not only show new elements of AFTER FOREVER, but it's also a reflection of the past. We wrote this album while negotiating with new labels and felt a lot of energy. The previous albums all had their own style and identity. This time we carried these different elements to the extremes.

"AFTER FOREVER is a metal band with classical influences. On our upcoming CD, the 'chemistry' between these two worlds worked out better than ever! Whatever we did in the past and planed for the future: you'll find it on 'After Forever'!"

According to an article on the Dutch web site Metalfan.nl, the song "Discord" will feature the Prague Symphonic Orchestra, while vocalist Doro Pesch can be heard dueting with AFTER FOREVER frontwoman Floor Jansen in the track "Who I Am". ANNIHILATOR guitarist Jeff Waters reportedly makes an appearance on a track that had a working title of "De-Energized", although it is not clear if the cut will be re-named before the final product is released on March 23 via Nuclear Blast Records. Other songs set to appear on the CD include "Evoke", "Transitory", "Equally Destructive", "Withering Time", "Cry With A Smile", "Envision", "Who I Am" and "Empty Memories".

j'ai vue after forever en live au graspop 2006 et j'ai beaucoup aimé, reste à voir ce que vaut cet album

Je me suis arrêté à Decipher moi, j'avais pas accroché des masses à Invisible Circles.

Pour ma part je prefere Invisible Circles à Decipher en tant qu'album, malgré le long passage parlé à la fin de Blind Pain totalement inutile (celui de Between Love and fire est déjà limite).

Je l'ai écouté, donc un petit avis dessus :
On dirait que AF veut prendre la place pour l'instant vacante de Nightwish avec des saillies orchestrales très fournies, mais en parallèle, le changement qui est né avec "Two Sides" et Remagine est encore plus marqué avec pas mal d'effets claviers.
j'ai trouvé ça plutôt bien, parfois un poil sucré (enfin ça dépend, "De-Energize est musclée) dans certains arrangements. Pour moi ça n'égale pas IC, mais je pense que certaines choses qui me gênent pour l'instant passeront au fil des écoutes.

je ne me prononce pas sur sa "durée de vie".

Ok, mais y'a toujours le chant death ?

Y'en a ptetr un peu moins que d'habitude, mais y'en a toujours.

je suis assez peu d'accord sur le fait que AF veuille prendre la place de nightwish.

les arrangements sympho sont moins typés "hollywood" (hans zimmer et compagnie), plus sombres, plus dramatiques, je les comparerais presque à ceux de dimmu.
outre les grunts, certes moins présents, on retrouve bon nombre de phrasés typés black dans le jeu de guitare (c'est particulierement flagrant sur de-energized par exemple).
je n'ai pas encore bien fait le tour de cette galette, mais je serais presque tenté de parler d'album de la maturité.

l'orchestre sied parfaitement au groupe, tantot machine à riff, tantôt faisant office de 3e guitare, le chant est maîtrisé, varié (on a parfois des relents de chanteuses hard 80's sur certains couplets, doro fait une apparition ça doit pas etre un hasard), les choeurs sublimes comme à l'accoutumée.
je reprocherais peut être un peu aux parties de grattes un certain manque d'ambition, ça pond du riff syncopé assez basiques comme jamais, et quand ça tente des solos c'est plutôt pauvre.

il reste qu'on a un album d'une rare cohérence, complexe tout en ne laissant pas l'auditeur sur la touche comme invisible circles pouvait le faire (ça demandait une certaine persévérance pour pouvoir l'écouter d'un bout à l'autre, malgré ses qualités). les émotions sont là, les ambiances étoffées, la prod puissante.
il nécessitera encore plusieurs écoutes pour déterminer si oui ou non l'album tient la distance, mais je peux d'ors et déjà affirmer que je me retrouve bien plus dans celui-ci que dans un remagine pas mauvais mais trop fade et consensuel.

En bref, c'est un album généreux à l'image de sa chanteuse!

"We deeply regret to announce that, under medical advisory, Sander [Gommans, guitar] won't be joining the band for the scheduled performances at the CD presentation [on April 17 in Utrecht, Holland], nor the Earthshaker Roadshock Tour [with FINNTROLL, TAROT, DIE APOKALYPTISCHEN REITER, MACHINE MEN and ALL ENDS]. He's currently seeing doctors to diagnose and treat the problems so that he can get back to the band as soon as possible."

Commented Gommans: "Lately, when I've been under stress or performing any heavy activity, I get spells of vertigo and debilitating blackouts, followed or preceded by a migraine. The last few performances with the band did not go as well as I would have liked because of these symptoms and I'm afraid it seems to be getting worse. I'm seeking medical advice to try and figure out what exactly is going on so that I can get better and get back to performing as soon as possible.

"Touring and performing are pretty taxing and strenuous, and I have therefore been advised to remain off stage until this affliction has been properly diagnosed and treated. It's really difficult for the band and particularly for me personally to have to bow out at this crucial time, but I'm afraid it's necessary at this point. I need to follow doctor's orders and take care of myself. I can assure you that my main priority is still AFTER FOREVER and getting back in gear to perform as soon as I am able. Please hang in there and understand that this is a difficult time for me, so some respect for my privacy will be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for your support and well-wishes. It means a lot!"

interessant de regarder que sur les 2000 qui ont ecouté le premier morceau, seuls 100 ont tenus jusqu à la fin de l album

J'ai regardé le clip de Energize Me et bah c'est pas terrible. J'avais même capté qu'il y avait un refrain.

J'suis pas fan de toute cette vague de groupes à chanteuse, mais AF ça passe pas trop mal.
D'ailleurs j'viens d'écouter le titre sur le sampler Rock Hard, et c'est plutot cool.
J'tenterai l'album tiens.

Je trouve ce nouvel album franchement enorme, une sacree bombe.

Je suis globalement d'accord avec l'analyse de Behemoth . Je remets ici la chro que j'ai fait sur Metal France.

Dans une scène saturée comme le métal à chant féminin, les artistes qui osent innover deviennent de plus en plus rares et lorsqu’un groupe, qui est d’ailleurs l’un des piliers du genre, sort un album sentant le renouveau et l’innovation, cela fait plaisir.

After Forever est l’un des plus grands groupes de cette scène. Depuis leur premier album, « Prison of Desire » (2000), le groupe a sorti 4 albums assez différents les uns des autres, les deux premiers étant plus symphoniques, puis « Invisible Circles » comme album charnière entre le départ de Mark Jansen et «Remagine ». « Invisible Circles » était plutôt plat et peu inspiré, alors qu’avec « Remagine », le groupe montrait qu’il avait de l’inspiration et pouvait innover.

Dans la continuité de « Remagine », voilà donc un album éponyme brillant et complexe. Le groupe propose souvent des morceaux complexes, et la preuve en est encore la. « After Forever » nécessite plusieurs écoutes pour bien apprécier les titres, qui possèdent une structure alambiquée, flirtant avec le progressif sur « Dreamflight », le titre de bravoure long de plus de 10 minutes. Le seul titre simple est « Energize Me », un morceau accrocheur, avec un refrain qui se scotche dans la tête assez vite, et remplit donc à merveille son rôle de single.
La variété est de mise aussi, aussi bien dans le chant de Floor, dont la performance vocale est excellente, que dans les styles pratiqués. Bien que la puissance soit une constante, les morceaux varient de la pop (« Envision » et ses claviers catchy, l’introduction d’ « Evoke ») à la ballade (« Cry with a Smile », très émouvante), en passant par du heavy puissant et violent (« Discord », « Transitory », avec le chant death de Sanders Gommas). Les instrumentations sont variées et mettent en avant la puissance le cote entrainant des chansons.
Le groupe utilise les services d’un orchestre symphonique, qui ne vient jamais envahir les morceaux mais plutôt les servir par des passages très bien intégrés à la structure. Les chansons « Discord » et « Withering Time » sont à ces titres exemplaires, les orchestrations sont puissantes, une fois encore, et rehaussent le coté symphonique.

Le chant n’est pas en reste. Floor excelle, elle module sa voix lors des morceaux, chante aussi bien de façon pop (« Envision ») que lyrique (« Withering Time »). Les growls sont aussi très bien exécutés.

Cet album est une bombe, le meilleur d’After Forever à ce jour, un surprenant condensé de tout ce qu’ils savent faire. Reste à savoir maintenant s’il peut tenir à l’épreuve du temps, et franchement, je pense que oui.
Contrairement à leurs collègues de Within Temptation, dont le dernier album, certes bon, est une prise de risque minimale, After Forever démontrent sa capacité à innover.

Parce que le métal à chant masculin il est pas saturé peut-être ? Nan parce que si le genre de la personne derrière le micro est si déterminant que ça, faut se poser la question

Ce que je voulais dire, c'est que ce subgenre, qui est apparu et a explose assez rapidement, est remplis ras la gueule de groupe qui se contentent de faire quelque chose de basique, sans experimentations et/ou prises de risques, juste pour suivre la mode.
