It's Official: DIO, IOMMI, BUTLER And WARD To Reunite As HEAVEN AND HELL - Oct. 25, 2006

A representative for BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi has confirmed that the highly anticipated and much-rumored reunion of Iommi, Ronnie James Dio, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward appears to be shaping up and taking a new form. After various promoters have approached the former SABBATH bandmates' respective representatives, the guys have started taking all of this very seriously, as they have aparently wanted to reunite for some time now. It looks as if the new shape may be that of HEAVEN AND HELL — that is the moniker that the band is likely to use on their new venture. If all goes well, HEAVEN AND HELL should be hitting the road in early 2007.

In an August 16, 2006 appearance on the syndicated radio show "Rockline", Dio had the following to say about the possibility of further collaborations with BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi:

"We've already written one [new] song together. The reason for that is that there's a release coming out, it's called 'Black Sabbath: The Dio Years' — they've already done one, of course, 'Black Sabbath: The Ozzy Years'; that was the beginning and, really, the best part of it all — but they've decided to do one, again, 'Black Sabbath: The Dio Years', and we wanted to make it a little but more special, not just give you things you've not heard from a live perspective. These are two things you'll never hear again — two new songs. We are going to do that. It's been fun already. The one we've done — the one that I've done with Tony has been really wonderful — just great to realize how magnificent a player he was. You forget that after 10 years at a time that you don't work with someone. So we are gonna be doing that. And I hope you'll like it. I think it'll be great."

On the rumors of him possibly rejoining BLACK SABBATH, Dio said, "There's always rumors about everything — about a RAINBOW reunion, about a BLACK SABBATH reunion. Our purpose was to do this because we wanted to have this product be a bit more special than anything else — not just, 'Here's a live track you've never heard before.' I mean, that's cool, but I'm sure people have heard that. We wanted to do something a bit more special, so the whole band would write and play these songs, and… They've wanted to hear them long enough, so here they are. But it's not anything that we've talked about leading to anything other than that. No, it's for that project."

Dio parle de son nouvel album et bien sur de Black Sabbath. Il ne parle pas d'une reformation en tout cas, juste de quelques morceaux pour le best-of.

Norway's Metal Express Radio recently conducted an interview with legendary heavy metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW). A few excerpts from the chat follow:

Metal Express Radio: How's your upcoming studio album shaping up?

Dio: We've been writing three or four things at the moment and preparing to do this after we tour. So, we're trying to get some ideas together at the moment, so that we can have something to work on when we do have the long break to properly do the album. So, it's started already, but it's in very beginning form. I have no idea about the release date, but it's probably going to come out sometime next year.

Metal Express Radio: Do you have any idea of where the album's direction will go?

Dio: Well, we want to make this a faster album as far as tempos go. The last album was a bit more medium tempo. Of course, there will be some songs like that, because that's what we do, but I'd like to make it a faster album with more faster songs.

Metal Express Radio: Have you ever tried any musical directions that you were unhappy with in the end?

Dio: Well, probably when we were doing "Angry Machines", I think that was starting to go some place that I didn't want to go to, but it was kinda forced too, because of those of us who were writing. With that band it was a little bit more difficult and it was at a very strange time, so the songs became a little bit more modern. That would be the time I would think I was the least happy with the material that I was partly writing. It's not that I'm blaming it on anyone else, because I was there too.

Metal Express Radio: Now you have Craig [Goldy] back in the band. How much did you miss him?

Dio: I didn't miss him terribly when Doug [Aldrich] was playing, because he's so damn good. It's like changing out two good parts. It's not that I didn't miss him as a person, of course I did, but talking strictly musically, it was very easy to do it with Doug, because he's so good and he knew all the material, because he played with us before. But yeah, I missed Craig from a personal standpoint and it's always nice to have him back knowing just how confident that he is and just how easily we work together.

Metal Express Radio: What was the reason he left in the first place? There were rumours about being ill and also personal reasons...

Dio: No, no, it wasn't personal at all. He hurt his arm, I guess, and he just couldn't play anymore, so he had to get that rehabbed ... and now that Doug is back with WHITESNAKE, luckily for us Craig is back with us.

Metal Express Radio: Was it obvious for you that Doug was to continue with WHITESNAKE?

Dio: It was pretty obvious to me that Doug wouldn't be coming back. He had committed himself, I believe, to WHITESNAKE. We never really talked directly about it. A lot of times when someone joins the band and they're having a good time, you talk about the future, but I never really counted upon that happening. I assumed that he would be playing with WHITESNAKE again and that the WHITESNAKE schedule would, of course, get in the way of ours, and I'm not about to work around someone else's schedules. I'm just glad that Craig is back.

Metal Express Radio: Journalists are always asking you about BLACK SABBATH and RAINBOW reunions. When will you get fed up with these questions?

Dio: Well, you know, it's easy enough to say it's not going to happen. (Laughs) I don't have to explain that. I think it shows that people remember something that happened so long ago and consider it to be good enough to hear it again. It doesn't bother me. I mean I think people will eventually get the idea that it's not going to happen with me in the band anyway. It may happen with someone else. It's very possible that Ritchie [Blackmore] would get that band together and who knows who he will choose. It's not gonna be me. As far as SABBATH goes, they're releasing a box set called BLACK SABBATH "The Dio Years", and Tony [Iommi] and I are going to write a couple of songs for that project. But, that's it. I've created a different life for myself and I'm not about to leave this band for anything else. What comes along comes along, but at this moment it's just DIO that I'm concerned about.

Metal Express Radio: Would you see yourself writing a solo album together with Tony?

Dio: I don't know, I don't know. I've never given that any thought. I'm not sure. That's interesting. As long as it doesn't get in the way of what I'm doing here, then I would consider it. But, there's an overriding concern for me as I don't want this band to slip away, and that's a very easy thing that could happen when you get tempted by these things. I've played for enough people in my life, I don't really have to worry about that. I don't have to be tempted by those kind of things when I know what usually happens: it breaks up the good things that you have, because you can't keep a band on the sidelines and you can't keep good players from not playing. So, for those reasons I would only consider doing something that would not harm this band.

Metal Express Radio: How does it feel when people call you the greatest voice ever in heavy metal?

Dio: I've heard compliments a lot, and that's wonderful. I'm very glad that people compliment. I know what I am, I know what I can do and I know what I can't do. Knowing what you can't do sometimes doesn't allow you to say, “Yes, I am the greatest.” You can't be the best if you can't do everything. But anyway, I know what I do and I think I've been lucky enough to kept creating a sound that has been copied by some other really good singers, and I helped to bring their careers along just by what I've done with other great bands like RAINBOW, SABBATH, and DIO. So, I'm very pleased with the compliments. It's very very nice. Usually those are things they say about you after you die, so I guess it's even better that I'm still alive and I can enjoy the compliments. I'm very happy that people think I'm that good and I always try to be that good for them because if they think I am that good, then I should be.

Legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW) has revealed to Classic Rock magazine that HEAVEN AND HELL — the new band featuring Dio alongside original BLACK SABBATH members Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward — will likely headline next year's Monsters of Rock festival.

Monsters of Rock returned to the U.K. festival scene at Milton Keynes Bowl this past summer, with DEEP PURPLE as headliners. Now it looks like it will return in 2007, with HEAVEN AND HELL on the bill.

The following is a brief interview Classic Rock conducted with Dio at Monday's (Nov. 6) Classic Rock Roll of Honour event in London:

Classic Rock: Speaking of Tony Iommi, there are of course rumors that you will be reuniting with him, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward as HEAVEN AND HELL next year.

Ronnie: They're absolutely true. We'll probably be doing a year of touring together. And it's looking like you'll see us at the Monsters of Rock festival, then shows in America. And after that we'll come back to the U.K. for eight or nine more shows.

Classic Rock: That's amazing news. More amazing still was that Ozzy Osbourne wished you well with HEAVEN AND HELL.

Ronnie: Yes, he did. Bless Ozzy. He's a special, special person. He's one of the creators of heavy metal music. He deserves wondrous applause, he's a wonderful man and I hope he and Sharon's lives are very, very happy.

Ronnie James Dio recently spent time in the U.K. "kicking around ideas" with Tony Iommi for a couple of new tracks to be included on SABBATH's forthcoming box set, "Black Sabbath: The Dio Years". In addition, according to Ozzy, a BLACK SABBATH tour with Osbourne, Iommi, Butler and Ward will kick off late 2007 to coincide with the group's first new studio album featuring that lineup since 1978's "Never Say Die!"

Dio was honored with the "Metal Guru" award at the Classic Rock Roll of Honour event, which was organized by Classic Rock magazine.

ça sera sans Ward vraissemblablement :

Reliable sources have informed BLABBERMOUTH.NET that drummer Vinny Appice (DIO, BLACK SABBATH) is currently in the U.K laying down drums on the two new tracks that will be included on BLACK SABBATH's forthcoming box set, "Black Sabbath: The Dio Years". In addition, Appice will be manning the drums on the upcoming 2007 tour by HEAVEN AND HELL — the new band featuring legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW) alongside original BLACK SABBATH members Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler. Founding SABBATH member/drummer Bill Ward, who was originally announced as being part of the HEAVEN AND HELL lineup, will apparently not take part in the group's upcoming trek.

Appice, 49, joined BLACK SABBATH in 1980, and appeared on the albums "Mob Rules" (1981) and the album recorded on that tour, "Live Evil" (1983). In late 1982, before "Live Evil" even hit the shelves, he left SABBATH with vocalist Ronnie James Dio and formed the band DIO. He appeared on the DIO albums "Holy Diver" (1983), "The Last in Line" (1984), "Sacred Heart" (1985), "Intermission" (1986), and "Dream Evil" (1987). In 1992 Appice returned to BLACK SABBATH (with Ronnie James Dio) for the "Dehumanizer" album and tour.

As previously reported, Dio recently revealed to Classic Rock magazine that HEAVEN AND HELL will likely headline next year's Monsters of Rock festival.

si tu attends de les voir en france pour casser ta resolution, rassures toi, tu n'es pas pres de remettre les pieds dans une salle de concert ... :D

au fait le boxset Dio years devient un simple CD best of de HnH, Mob Rules & Dehumanizer plus 2 ou 3 inédits ...

http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=62738
