Canada's pioneering metal band VOIVOD have set July 25, 2006 as the North American release date (via The End Records) for their much-anticipated new album, "Katorz".

As previously reported, VOIVOD recorded and mixed the album with producer Glen Robinson (ANNIHILATOR, TEA PARTY, GWAR) at Multisons studio in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and mastered the CD in New York.

The follow-up to 2003's "Voivod", "Katorz" is the first album in the band's 20-plus-year career that did not feature founding guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour working alongside his bandmembers in the studio. D'Amour died August 26, 2005 in a Montreal hospital from complications of advanced colon cancer.

In order to record "Katorz", singer Denis "Snake" Belanger, drummer Michael "Away" Langevin, and bassist Jason "Jasonic" Newsted utilized all of the guitar parts that Piggy had recorded for the record on his laptop with ProTools before his death.

In a recent interview with Greg Prato of Billboard.com, Langevin had the following to say about the upcoming CD: "It came about in unfortunate circumstances, but the result is mind-blowing. Right before his departure, Denis explained to me that he had recorded all the tracks that we had been working on with Jason and Snake for the past two years. He had recorded that on his laptop with ProTools, and even though he would have preferred to re-do the whole thing in a real studio, there was a chance that we could use the tracks. We built the album based on the guitar tracks, which was difficult, because normally, we go the other way around — we start with the drums, and then add stuff on top. But it sounds amazing."

"'Katorz' means 14 — it's the 14th effort of the band," Belanger added. "The first time Piggy put it together and gave us the demo was on CD, [and he had written] 'Katorz', which is not the right way to write it. Of course [there is] an emotional side to it, so we took the demo, and the design of it will be his handwriting."

Bref, si quelqu'un peu me dire quels sont les albums à écouter en priorité, je suis bien évidemment preneur. Douggy peut être...

Eric Forrest habite ici, il donne régulièrement des concerts dans la ville. Je l'ai rencontré plusieurs fois, très sympa le gars, et malgré la galère il est toujours passionné. J'avais failli auditionner pour le poste de guitariste.

Lui c'est un putain de chanteur, il a une voix énorme, et est excellent dans certaines imitations, Bon Scott particulièrement.

On passe toujours une très bonne soirée quand il joue.

Ben le gars n'y arrive plus. Il avait fait un album avec son projet E Force, puis était parti en tournée internationale. Ses 2 gratteux l'ont abandonné en pleine tournée (juste avant vol du matériel en plus). Ils ont du tout annuler. C'était pour ça que j'avais faillit auditionner. Ensuite il a monté un projet pour jouer dans les bars mais que des reprises, le trio se fait appeler Rock n' Roll Rebels, ils ne jouent que du metal et du hard. C'est là que je l'ai vu plusieurs fois.

La dernière fois que je l'ai vu c'était novembre dernier, y a eu d'autres concerts par la suite où il me semble il jouait en plus des titres d'E Force.

Je ne sais pas où il en est là. Son batteur vient directement de Marseille à chaque fois. Et voilà ils font les bars...

Une fois ils avaient joué dehors, devant un bar, c'était cool (les amplis dedans), évidemment les flics ont débarqué, en plein "It's So Easy (GN'R) . Alors ils ont tout reprit à 0 mais dedans le bar. Le probleme c'est question place c'était vraiment nul. Mais pas grave ils ont joué plusieurs heures comme d'hab malgré tout. Parfois c'estsympa quand il y a de la place, ça pogotte

Je ne sais pas ce qu'il vaut question compo, mais ce type est excellent, et a une personnalité très cool (un peu désabusé aussi, mais à toloose c'est logique...)

Moi perso je le trouve bien meilleur que bon nombre qui font carrière, et il moisit ou crève ici.

Je ne sais pas comment il gagne sa vie, mais voilà... (putain mais comment il a attéri dans cette ville de...... )

Dans Voïvod, il gueulait pas mal Forrest, bien plus que Snake. Je serais vraiment curieux de l'écouter chanter du hard rock classique.

Sinon, pour le nouveau Voïvod, il devrait y avoir Chuck Shuldiner et Kurt Cobain en guests star, ils ont repris des vieux riffs enregistrés par ces gars y'a 10 ans et ils s'en sont servis pour l'album, ça va être énorme

Ben pour le hard rock c'est bien sauvage, mais aussi par moment il imite les voix originales (Bon Scott en tête).

Il reprend du: Motorhead, Judas Priest, Metallica, Megadeth, Guns N'Roses, AC/DC, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Slayer (il me semble), Led Zep, Sepultura, WASP, Accept, Iron Maiden, Kreator etc.

E-FORCE, the band featuring former VOIVOD bassist/vocalist Eric Forrest, have posted four songs from their 2006 demo on their MySpace.com page. Check out the tracks "Satanic Rituals", "Lobotomized", "Agent 99" and "Exterminator" at ici.

E-FORCE's current lineup includes 19-year-old guitar hero Cyril Bernhard, who has been influenced by the likes of Yngwie Malmsteen, Marty Friedman and Andy Larocque, among others. Completing the group's current formation is drummer Boris Lugan. E-FORCE are currently writing songs for the next album release, which will include collaborations with Alex of AGRESSOR as well as Tim and Kevin Guttierez of PROJECT: FAILING FLESH. Moreover, Eric has decided to re-record/cover a song from the unreleased VOIVOD 2001 demo as a tribute to late VOIVOD guitarist Denis "Piggy" Da'Amour.

E-FORCE's debut album, "Evil Forces", was released in October 2003 via Season Of Mist Records.
