Des news fraiches. Le projet a l'air alléchant. Et il met tout de son côté pour réussir comme en témoigne le casting. Il y a même le "remplaçant" de Jorn après son départ d'Ark.

Drum legend John Macaluso (TNT, ARK, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, JAMES LABRIE, STARBREAKER) has just revealed details of his upcoming album, "John Macaluso & Union Radio - The Radio Waves Goodbye", due early 2007 on Lion Music.

Commented Macaluso: "This album to me is an influence of PINK FLOYD and BLACK SABBATH to me, with drumming twice the speed. I have spent a year and a half working on it, gathering all my best friends in the music world together. I wrote music and lyrics for my band ARK, but this is the first time where I am writing words, music, and vocal melodies. It is my baby and has come out better than ever expected because all the friends on the record have kicked and performed incredibly on it. I have 12 songs and a drum solo on it. There is a drumming influence of my drumming idol Terry Bozzio of course, mixed with moody Nick Mason styles and a heavy techno drum and bass vibe. This type of drumming with FLOYD-type vibes makes for something I personally have never heard before.

"As far as the players, I thought it would be interesting to have everybody play something they are really not accustomed to. For example, to put a lead electric guitarist on 12-string only and even distorted banjo and Bazuki. This adds great colour and even a strange folk influence to the music. The vibe is very dark and the content of the songs too. I felt I should go more with keyboards than heavy guitar.

"I have done records my whole life with heavy guitar sounds, and this, of course, still has some but I think using strange chords is actually heavier and deeper than just having a crunchy sound. That's it; check it out very soon. There are some great players on this record playing some magic.

Rien de bien neuf dans la niouz si ce n'est la date de sortie : le 25 mai. Personne n'attends cet album mais sur le papier c'est énorme. Pourvu qu'il ne me fasse pas mentir.

En tout cas ça fait envie, clair ! En plus le guitariste de LABRIE est loin d'être un manche (erf), ça promet.

Je reste prudent vis-à-vis de ce qui est annoncé...Mais ça suffit à attiser ma curiosité d'inconditionnel de Ark. Vivement le 25 mai !

3 titres sont dispos dont celui avec LaBrie. C'est marrant sur celui là son chant et le style pratiqué rappelle son dernier album solo.

Par contre derrière à la batterie ça se régale grave... sans être gavant. Il a un sacré jeu ce Macaluso.

Le second titre est plus planant et a quelques influences Arkiennes. C'est léger mais les mélodies au clavier ou la basse à mi-morceau y fait penser.

Le dernier c'est un solo de batterie. On voit qu'il est fort c'est clair, mais bon c'est un solo de batterie quoi...

Alléchant tout ça !

LABRIE fait des trucs étonnants "dans les aigus". Le deuxième morceau (enfin le 4ième de l'album) est bien bizarre comme il faut. Je suis preneur. Et le solo est... un solo, comme dirait Ultima.

Date de sortie le 25 mai... Il est réellement sorti ?

Il est sorti... mais de manière confidentielle.
Je l'ai pris sur le site de Macaluso. Sinon rien à la Fnac et sur Amazon.

Mierda, 'sur le net' que dalle aussi... bien joué, mais un peu trop confidentiel quand même du coup !

Le problème va surtout être de le trouver en magasin.

Tiens je viens de voir que Brennus l'avait. Si j'avais su je l'aurais pris chez eux ça aurait été plus vite.

TAOM si tu veux acheter chez eux, tu peux y aller les yeux fermés, ils sont sérieux.

Envoyé par Macaluso et reçu aujourd'hui. Bon le cd a un peu morflé pendant le voyage (les picots ont été littéralement annihilés).

Le livret est soft. Le genre qu'on dépli et qui tiens sur 3 pages. Faut s'accrocher aussi pour lire les paroles.

Maintenant il n'y a plus qu'à l'écouter.

Très bon honnêtement. Il tourne bien en ce moment. Il a mis les petits plats dans les grands.

Bon je vois arriver la question : est ce que ça ressemble à Ark ? Réponse : oui et non. Oui pour l'aspect "prog intelligent" c'est-à-dire faire une musique intelligente sans en avoir l'air. Pas de titre à rallonge ici et des mélodies facilement mémorisables. Oui aussi pour quelques réminiscences Arkiennes. Je pense à l'excellente Prayer Pill (vous pouvez la tester ici) qui peut faire penser aux titres les plus planants du combo notamment Absolute Zero. Sur de nombreux titres, on trouve au chant Adrian Holtz... le remplaçant de Jorn Lande dans Ark. Il a une voix moins rauque mais une tessiture plus large. Il m'a épaté là dessus.

Mais non, il ne s'agit pas d'une copie d'Ark. L'album n'est pas très metal à part le Soul In Your Mind avec LaBrie. Le reste est plus planant. Là où Ark était tourné "guitare" ici ce sont les claviers qui ont la part belle. Les claviers "ambiances" pas les claviers branlotage. Et le père John se révèle être un homme pleins de surprises. Car là où trouver un solo de batterie sur un album d'un batteur relève du commun, avoir un morceau sans batterie est bien exotique ! C'est ce que propose 6 Foot Under Happy Man avec des cuivres très cabarets et un John qui nous raconte son histoire.

Un mot sur l'instrumentale T-34. Là où je suis prudent habituellement, je vous conseille vivement d'y jeter une oreille. On a droit à 7 minutes de folie. Pas de branlette jazz ou de descente de manche à qui mieux mieux mais de la mélodie prenante loin de la démonstration bassement technique. La partie au violoncelle est réellement fantastique. Sacré titre instru.

Les amateurs d'Ark devraient le tester, c'est un album qui est tout à fait dans l'esprit.

Je n'y manquerais pas, je pense l'écouter aujourd'hui.
