Brazilian/American thrashers SEPULTURA have commenced the songwriting process for their next album, tentatively due in late 2013 via Nuclear Blast Records.

Brazilian/American thrashers SEPULTURA will reunite with producer Ross Robinson (KORN, LIMP BIZKIT, SLIPKNOT) to record their next album, tentatively due in October via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD will be tracked in June at Robinson's studio in Venice, California and will be co-produced by Steve Evetts, who previously worked with SEPULTURA on the "Nation" (2001), "Revolusongs" (2002) and "Roorback" (2003) albums, in addition to having collaborated with Ross on a number of other projects in the past.

Speaking to Kostantinos Giannopoulos of the Greek webzine Rock Overdose, SEPULTURA frontman Derrick Green said: "We have written most of the music already and now we are working on lyrics for the album. We should have everything ready before we hit the studio June 1st.

"The album is sounding really sinister, dark and metal as hell!

"It's been great working with [SEPULTURA's 22-year-old drummer] Eloy [Casagrande] in the writing process because it brings a whole different energy to the music. The many changes that have been going on in our lives and in the world also add to the making of the new album."

The follow-up to 2011's "Kairos" will contain nine songs, including

and two bonus tracks (covers of DEATH's "Zombie Ritual" and a track from the Brazilian group CHICO SCIENCE E NAÇÃO ZUMBI). The CD will also feature a guest appearance by former SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo.

SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser recently stated about the upcoming CD: "I think this album is one of the heaviest albums we ever did. We want to bring the SEPULTURA live attitude to the studio and with Ross we achieved that more than any other album, it sounds very alive, the performances are at their best. But we have one specific song that is more dramatic, clean but heavy and dark. The song is called 'Grief', which had the nickname 'Balada'. It is a song that starts with clean guitars in a way that we never attempted before, I think it was our biggest challenge on this album, regarding all the instruments and it came out amazing."

Regarding the contributions of SEPULTURA's new drummer, Eloy Casagrande, to the new album recording sessions, Kisser said: "Eloy is one of the great drummers of the world. It's amazing to see him playing with such energy and power. He brought a new level of energy and possibilities to our music. I wrote crazy riffs on the guitar that was no problem for him to work something even crazier on drums. Heavy parts with lots of double bass and fast drum fills. We wrote one of the best SEPULTURA albums together. You all will hear this monster behind the drumsticks. He killed on the recording sessions and it will be awesome to perform these songs live on stage."

"Max Is A Bum"

Although it was inspired by Fritz Lang's classic 1927 movie "Metropolis", the CD is not a concept album or a soundtrack like its precedessors "Dante XXI" (based on "The Divine Comedy") and "A-Lex" (based on "A Clockwork Orange").

Commented guitarist Andreas Kisser: "I was inspired by a phrase which is the main message of the story: 'The mediator between the head and hands must be the heart' to express what we are saying on the lyrics.

"In the movie, a crazy millionaire wants to transform a robot into a real person. That's kind of the opposite of what we live today. More than ever we are robotized, through the worldwide web, Google glasses, chips under our skins and the globalized slavery our society suffers nowadays. The phrase points to the heart as being the human factor who keeps a man, a man, not a robot. The heart beats with freedom of choice, we have to think by ourselves to create a real world, not a matrix. ?

"Being a novel written in the early 1920s, it's almost prophetical. It helped us to put the ideas together for the lyrics to express what we see today.

"I live in São Paulo, Brasil, one of the big metropolis in the world with more than 20,000,000 people living and working in it. I know how it is to live in daily chaos, our music reflects a lot of that feeling.

"The album is brutal, fast and straight to the point, I feel this is the best SEPULTURA ever, no bullshit.
